Ally Financial has Built One of the Smartest Sports Sponsorship Portfolios in America

Ally Financial is on a NASCAR car, a WNBA jersey, a women’s golf major, a college basketball event, and some of the fastest growing women’s sports media platforms in the United States.

Most people have seen the logo. Very few have noticed the strategy behind it.

In 2022, Ally committed to splitting its sports media spending equally between men’s and women’s sports. By April 2026, it had reached that target a year early after increasing its spend on women’s sports by more than 4.6 times.

The timing was smart. In 2024, the WNBA generated $76 million in team sponsorship revenue while the NBA generated roughly $1.6 billion. Ally entered while the audience was growing faster than the price of the sponsorships.
