By late 2022, the NBA’s investment portfolio was already worth close to $1 billion.

Since then, the NBA has built stakes in more than 30 companies across media, data, commerce, technology and fan engagement, including Sportradar, Fanatics Collectibles, Cosm and Fastbreak AI.

The more interesting part is how those investments are created.

Beyond capital, the NBA can offer rights, data, product testing, team access, global events and distribution across the NBA and WNBA.

In some cases, the NBA has spent years using a company before investing. In others, Launchpad gives startups around six months to test their products inside the league before an investment decision is made. Across its first five cohorts, only 27 companies were selected from more than 1,300 applicants, and seven had received NBA Investments funding by early 2026.

The NBA can help companies grow while owning part of the value it creates, taking stakes in the infrastructure that powers and monetises basketball.
